MILWAUKEE — Move over Blue Apron and Stitch Fix, there’s a new type of subscription box and this time it’s for model railroaders. This week, Wm. K. Walthers, Inc., announced it was launching a first-of-its-kind subscription program for model railroaders called the “Build-A-World Modeling Kit.”

Those who sign up for the kit will get a new box every month for six months with everything they need to build a 12″ x 24″ diorama. The boxes are aimed at bringing more people into the hobby and giving them the tools they need to succeed.

“At Walthers, we’re always looking for ways to innovate and continue to grow the hobby for both new and experienced modelers,” said Karen Formico, Vice President of Marketing. “Our goal with the Build-A-World Modeling Kit is to invite in new users and expand the enjoyment of our hobby by making it easy to participate.”

The boxes come in three different themes: Mainstreet USA, the American Farmstead and Northwoods Retreat. Each kit builds on the skills learned the previous month and there are even how-to guides and videos.

“Many people would love to get their kids involved in a hobby that moves them away from their electronic devices, but don’t know where to begin,” Formico said. “The Build-A-World Modeling Kit helps kids put down their phones and video games and dive into a pre-designed ‘kitchen table’ project that requires no additional planning or tools. The kits are ready for anyone to begin and enjoy when the box arrives at your door!”
