Designed to haul bulky and perishable foods such as frozen french fries and produce, the Greenbrier 7780 cubic foot Reefer exemplifies the state of the art in refrigerated transportation over the rails today. With an impressive 72’ 3” interior length, each of these massive cars takes up a full 82 feet over the drawbars once the externally mounted reefer section is included.
Rapido is offering an entire family of these Greenbrier 7780s for HO scale. Variations include two roof styles, two different reefer units and two styles of end cages. Liveries for this release include Cryo-Trans (Orange End 2005+), Cryo-Trans (Yellow End, 2013+), Lineage (2022+), Union Pacific (ARMN, low reporting marks, 2013+ or high reporting marks, 2015+), Ontario Northland (2023+), AOKX (2024+), and a fully-assembled car finished in white with data only. Multiple road numbers available per scheme, where appropriate.
Silent models retail for $69.95 each, while cars equipped with wand-activated track-powered generator sounds and illuminated status lights on the reefer units are $89.95 MSRP each. Sound and lighting-equipped cars also include Rapido’s Mo-Power keep-alive circuit for uninterrupted effects over dirty track.
Each replica of these Greenbrier 7780cf Reefers features metal grab irons, separate door bars, etched metal crossover platforms, metal knuckle couplers, machined metal wheelsets, and more. Unlike the Cryo-Trans cars with ribbed roof corrugations, The Lineage and UP reefers feature diagonal panel roofs.
The Cryo-Trans cars are available in two versions: 2005+ era cars, and 2013+ era cars. Each version features different styles of end refrigeration units patterned after their Carrier-built prototypes. Note also the yellow upper body paint on the 2013+ cars.
Union Pacific/ARMN cars are offered in two paint variations – either with low-mounted reporting marks such as this ARMN 17009, or with the reporting marks painted in a higher position to avoid graffiti.
