As there were so many new products seen at the 2025 National Train Show in Novi, Michigan, we have provided additional coverage on the new releases seen at the show here below.
Bachmann
Bachmann Trains unveiled a series of new rolling stock at the 2025 National Train Show spanning nearly every era from the birth of railroading in North America to present day Amtrak and VIA Rail passenger equipment.
HO – Named for the father of the Erie Canal, the DeWitt Clinton was the third American locomotive to operate under steam power in public service. This ready to run HO scale set includes the locomotive with engineer figure, three prototypical carriage-style passenger cars, an updated drive system and an oval of snap fit track and a power pack with speed controller.
HOn30 – Built in 1878 for the Corris Railway in Wales, Sir Haydn was employed in passenger and freight service until the line’s closure in 1948 as Corris Railway #3. In 1951, the locomotive was renamed “Sir Haydn” in recognition of the former owner of the Corris Railway. Today, the Sir Haydn operates in excursion service and returns to its home rails on occasion. The model is to feature die cast metal construction, blackened metal wheelsets with metal drivers and more. Price and delivery TBA
HO – As railroads solidified their position as the primary mode of local and long range transportation in the late 1800s, the need for higher capacity passenger cars became apparent. To meet the demand, newer, longer passenger car designs entered service. Seen for the first time in public at the 2025 National Train Show is an all-new 1900’s era 68-foot passenger car based on a Boston & Maine prototype from Bachmann. Features include clear windows, knuckle couplers, blackened metal wheelsets and a detailed underframe.
HO & N – Bachmann is expanding its line of Siemens passenger equipment with a cab car version of the Siemens Venture coaches. These Venture Cab Cars will be initially offered for VIA Rail Canada in both the standard livery and also in VIA Rail’s latest Lumi livery. Also expected this year in VIA Rail’s latest “Lumi” scheme will be Siemens SCV-42s and Venture cars in HO and N scales from Bachmann.
Broadway Limited
HO – Preceding the world-famous Big Boys and Challengers on the Union Pacific was the “Bull Moose”, a 2-8-8-0 “Consolidation Mallet” entering service in 1918. Broadway Limited displayed a preproduction model of its forthcoming “Bull Moose” to the show. Also present were advanced development samples of BLI’s massive Class D Four-truck Shay. Executive train modelers of the 1980s to the present day were pleased to see Broadway’s rendition of the Fox River Theatre Car – originally a C&NW Business Car and now on the UP roster. Production versions of the Fox River and the UPP Power Car are scheduled to arrive in December 2025.

InterMountain Railway Co.
N – New and available now from InterMountain Railway Company is its latest release of Trinity 3281cf Covered Hoppers. Since 1999, these 2-bay covered hoppers have plied North American rails from coast to coast hauling heavy and dense granular commodities such as cement, roofing granules and various grades of sand, including quartz-silica “frac” sand used for petroleum extraction. Liveries include CSX, Norfolk Southern, Winchester and Western, GACX and Iowa, Chicago & Eastern.
Kato USA
N – Kato USA brought along tooling samples of its upcoming N scale EMD SD70ACU locomotives. Roadnames for this upcoming release will include Norfolk Southern (Horsehead), and Canadian Pacific Railway in five commemorative paint schemes honoring the different branches of the US and Canadian Armed Forces.
Prairie Shadows
HO – Soon to arrive from Prairie Shadows Model Company are PD5000 covered hoppers in multiple tooling variations to cover the various builders that built these cars between 1979 and 1987 and a (1997+) Trinity 50’ HC Boxcar with over ten different tooling variations. These RTR models are expected shortly followed by a family of 89’ Tri-level auto racks and a GP20C-ECO locomotive.
RailSmith
N – Railsmith displayed examples of its small window coach finished in Great Northern’s Big Sky Blue livery, suitable for the 1967 Great Northern Empire Builder. Also on display was the Kansas City – a KCS Dome Car for KCS’s Executive train.
ScaleTrains


HO – ScaleTrains brought along a development model of its 2-8-4 Berkshire to be sold under its Fox Valley Models brand. This Berkshire is based on a prototype built by Lima Locomotive Works for the Erie Railroad, the Chesapeake & Ohio, and the Nickel Plate. Also on display were deco samples for its forthcoming release of CSX Heritage GE ES44AH locomotives due in March 2026.This new production will include heritage liveries honoring the New York Central, Louisville & Nashville, Chessie System, Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis, Conrail, Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac, Chicago & Eastern Illinois, Seaboard Air Line, the Seaboard Coast Line and many others.
Walthers
HO – Walthers unveiled quite the lineup of new products at the 2025 National Train Show. Leading off the new offerings are chop-nosed Western Maryland GP9s, unique for their utilitarian flat-faced cab fronts and number boards located in the lowered nose.
Wabash Caboose
Between 1945 and 1955, The Wabash and the International Car Company built 90 steel cabooses with streamlined cupolas for the railroad and for its subsidiary, the Ann Arbor Railroad. Walthers announced that it will be producing highly-detailed replicas of the Wabash Streamlined Caboose as part of its premium WalthersProto line of rolling stock. These models feature all-new tooling with road- and era-specific details, including Murphy or diagonal-panel roofs, two different styles of end doors, modern or as-delivered smokejacks, see-through running boards and etched metal steps and step guards, separately applied wire form grab irons and more. Liveries for this inaugural release are to include Ann Arbor (red or red/yellow), DT&I (red/black), Wabash (as-delivered brown or red/white), (Norfolk & Western (blue hamburger or bicentennial). MSRP $79.98 each, two road numbers per scheme where appropriate. These all-new waycars are expected in Fall 2025.
New from Walthers Cornerstone
HO – New offerings displayed from Walthers’ Cornerstone structure line include a brick Tudor-style single family home, a large through-truss bridge with roadway, a short beam wooden bridge ideal for spanning small creeks, and several ornate Victorian-style 3-story homes
