Well Hole flatcars and depressed center flatcars enable railroads to carry special loads large enough to max out the maximum weight and dimensional clearances available on given railroad routes. In 1943, the Greenville Car Company produced four 64’6” heavy duty well hole flats of welded construction for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. These long lived cars saw service well into the CSX era. In 1950, the New York Central purchased a single car of the same distinctive design. This car survived long enough to receive Conrail paint.

New from Funaro & Camerlengo are resin kits to build these 64’6” Greenville Well Hole flatcars. Each kit includes the carbody, appropriate decals and trucks. Wheels and couplers are to be supplied by the modeler. $69.99/kit. Available direct. Free shipping.
