EMD’s 35-line locomotives marked the zenith of a long line of locomotives based on the 567-series prime mover that began with its very first and extremely successful road freight locomotive – the EMC FT. Introduced in 1964 at the World’s Fair held in New York, EMD offered four-motor, six-motor and even eight-motored double-engined variants of its 35-line locomotives, with the GP35, SD35 and DD35. Non-turbocharged variants were also sold as the GP28 and SD28.
Now available from Atlas Model Railroad Company is its latest production of Atlas Master EMD SD35 locomotives for both HO and N scale. New for this release are Southern Pacific SD35s with road-specific details that include the full SP-specific warning light cluster up front, along with rooftop-mounted bell and sun shades.
Each Atlas SD35 includes a precision drive system with can motor and dual flywheels driving all six axles, with all-wheel electrical pickup. Details include separately applied wire grab irons, MU hoses, coupler cut levers, knuckle couplers and more. HO versions also include sander lines and air lines on each truck.
