For over 25 years, Athearn’s Genesis brand stands at the top of its product offerings. Now in stores is Athearn’s first Genesis-level freight car for N scale – a 13,000 gallon capacity acid tank car. Prototypes for these distinctive cars have roamed the rails since the 1980s to the present day all across North America. Offered in two different body styles, with different top platforms and end sills, each car comes bristling with detail, including flexible rubber train line air hoses, two styles of underbody brake rigging, separately applied metal grab irons and handrails, etched walkway platforms, coupler cut levers, and Type F “Double shelf” knuckle couplers – a first for N scale. Machined metal wheelsets allow these cars to navigate rail as small as Code 40.
Road names for this inaugural production include: GE Rail Services (NATX/black and white), Grupo Mexico (MDCX, white), Procor (PROX/black or in white), Union Tank Car (UTLX/black or in white). Multiple road numbers available per livery. $44.99/car, or $124.99 for a three-pack. Available now at your favorite retailer or direct.

This all-white car represents a 13,855-gallon tank car built by Procor in June 1999 and assigned to sulfuric acid service. Unlike the other cars in this release, this Procor car features a bespoke three-section tank car jacket with a horizontal reinforcement bar spanning the center section underneath the vertical ladder. The air brake piping is also routed differently than the other two cars. Particularly impressive features include the nearly microscopic reporting marks printed on each truck sideframe per its prototype.

Unique features on the UTLX car include end sills with narrow end walkways, narrow upper walkways with tall railings, and a three-section tank car jacket.
