Unlike most specialized railcar designs to transport coiled steel over the past 60 years that hauled multiple steel coils longitudinally in a single trough along the length of the car, Greenbrier/Guderson began production in 2021 of a five-trough coil steel gondola in which the coils would be carried transversely to eliminate damage from coils coming in contact with each other during transport.
Over 2,500 Greenbrier Transverse Coil Cars have since entered service. Now arriving at your favorite dealer are HO scale replicas of these distinctive looking transverse-trough Greenbrier coil cars from Rapido Trains. Each car features a diecast metal underframe with numerous separately applied details including etched metal crossover platforms, coupler cut levers, metal grab irons, full brake rigging underneath, along with all-new 100-ton roller bearing trucks and more.
Road names for the first production include Arkansas & Oklahoma (AOK/black), Chicago Heights Terminal Transfer (CHTT/gray), Norfolk Southern (black), South Shore Freight (CSS/gray), Union Pacific (gray), Warwick Railway (WRWK with GATX logo/blue) and Railroad of Lies (ROLX/blue). Multiple road numbers per livery. Each car retail for $59.95 MSRP each, with 3-packs for $359.70 MSRP.
