Rapido M420s Arrive for BC Rail, Providence & Worcester

HO Scale (1:87)Now available from Rapido Trains is its latest production of the superbly detailed MLW M420 locomotives in several new variations and road names.

Leading off the new run are M420s for British Columbia Railway in both standard and cabless M420B versions with smaller fuel tanks, modified stepwells and rock lights in four different liveries (as-delivered two-tone green, modernized two-tone green – lightning stripe, red/white/blue late 1980s BC Rail, and a pair of B-units in the “hockey stick” iteration of the provincial red/white/blue colors. BC Rail M420s are offered in A-B sets, or as single A units. The two “hockey-stick” B-units are sold together as a special two-unit set.  Additional road names include M420Rs for Providence and Worcester with Type B trucks and unique headlight arrangement in both the as-delivered red/white and the later simplified red/brown P&W schemes, Delaware-Lackawanna 2045 (gray/white), and Minnesota Commercial 35 (red). All locomotives include straight metal handrails with plastic stanchions, full underbody details, separately-applied metal grab irons, LED lighting including classification lights, an illuminated control stand and much more.

In 1973, the British Columbia Railway ordered eight M420s equipped with the Canadian Safety Cab, and eight additional cabless M420Bs. These units served BC Rail into the late 1990s.  Some M420s went on to new careers on the Delaware-Lackawanna (ex-BCOL), Minnesota Commercial (ex-CN), Iowa Interstate (ex-PW) and Ontario Southland (ex-BCOL).

DC/DCC-ready silent locomotives carry an MSRP of $229.95 each while DC+DCC+Sound locomotives equipped with ESU Loksound are $349.95 each. DC/DCC-ready silent A-B and B-B sets are $429.95/set, while sound-equipped pairs carry an MSRP of $669.95/set.
