B.T.S. :: O Scale :: Locomotives
B.T.S. Purchases Babbitt Railway Supply Co.
The Babbitt Railway Supply Co. line of O scale locomotive kits consist of cast bronze boilers, NWSL gearing, cast aluminum or sheet brass tenders, and brass and white metal details. Over the years, many upgrades have been incorporated. Basic modeling skills, including filing, soldering, drill and tapping, are required for assembly. These kits build into basic, good running locomotives and provide a solid foundation for super detailing. Currently, the line contains a 4-6-0, 4-4-0, 4-6-2, 4-4-2, 2-6-0, and 4-8-2, all using 70 inch drivers, and three different tenders. Babbitt Railway Supply Co. started around 1947 with Gordon Varney releasing an O Scale 4-6-0 under the Varney name. This tooling was sold to General Models Corp. who added addition wheel arrangements, and was then picked up by All Nation in 1950. The steam locomotive portion of the line was later sold to George Sennhauser in Babbitt, MN who created the current name and reintroduced the line adding the 4-8-2. In 1993, Boyce Yates acquired and moved the line to Kentucky where he offered six different O Scale locomotive kits and many detail parts. Now the 60+ year old line has moved to B.T.S. in West Virginia. B.T.S., with over 30 years experience in the hobby, is best known as one of the oldest companies offering laser-cut craftsman kits in O, S, HO, and TT Scales. In addition, B.T.S. has a line of brass and white metal details. Brass imports and urethane kits are also available. The Babbitt locomotive line and all parts will again be available, and will be added to the B.T.S. catalog and web site. Watch the B.T.S. web site (www.btsrr.com) for future announcements.

D&RGW Peaked Roof Caboose Kit On3/On30

Built by the D&RGW on 30' boxcar underframes, these Class 3 peaked roof, long cabooses were numbered 0584-0589 and had a 26' body. This made the end platforms only 18" and combined with the peaked roof and single cupola window on some cars, yielded a very distinctive caboose. Several examples of the prototype are preserved in Colorado.
Never before offered, this new kit allows you to build either window version and in either On3 or On30.

MSRP: $55.00 (Catalog No. 524) An excellent beginner-level kit representing a small narrow gauge water tank, with front brick facade and stone rubble walls. All detail cast in place. 3.5" by 3.5" by 7" tall.
The spout mechanism is simple (a la EBT practice) because the spout represents one made from light, galvanized metal. The roof is conical and shingled. With the exception of the pieces of fine chain, the kit is all resin. Full instructions as well as a selection of detail parts are included.

The Lumber Yard Diorama
MSRP: $$225.00 US Mt. Albert Scale Models, a subsidiary of Mt. Albert Scale Lumber, has announced the Lumber Yard Diorama, the fifth in a series of limited edition craftsman kits in O Scale, 1:48.
The new kit was designed by Roger Malinowski, well known for his line of Stoney Creek Designs craftsman kits. Roger also provided the laser cutting services.
The Lumber Yard Diorama is a typical 20th Century small lumber supplier. Many of these structures are still standing today. The diorama consists of four separate structures: an office, a covered lumber rack, a covered cut-off saw shed, and a storage shed. These may be arranged to suit the modeler and the space available.
The components include laser cut sheetwood and plywood, board-by-board construction, detail parts from SierraWest Scale Models and Sodders Products, and a beautiful die cast Ford Stake Truck.
The kit also features a CD-ROM with step-by-step instructions and full-color photographs of the entire construction process.
All the basswood stripwood and sheetwood is from Mt. Albert Scale Lumber, the hobby leader in precision basswood stripwood and sheets.
This kit is a limited run of 200 kits. It is available only direct from Mt. Albert.

Economy Door 3000 Series Boxcar No. 3219 Rio Grande Gold scheme
MSRP: $54.95 (Catalog No. B340119) Baggage car 126 and Combine 212 had previously been used to haul general supplies for the Silverton trains. Now they were outfitted with concession equipment for the growing passenger business. It was therefore decided to utilize freight Boxcar nos. 3219 and 3468 to handle the baggage needs. To keep these cars looking comparable with the decade-old "Grande Gold" paint scheme, they were decorated in the bright livery to compliment the passenger car fleet on the daily summer runs to Silverton. We have accurately recreated economy door boxcar no. 3219's gold paint scheme with the Flying Grande herald for you - it will make a great companion to the previously-released 3468 boxcar! This is the only numbered car of this production run to only be available in a non-weathered version.

Economy Door 3000 Series Boxcar Supply Car No. 03131
MSRP: $54.95-59.95 (Catalog No. B340901 & B340901W) Most of the outfit boxcars used on the Rio Grande narrow gauge throughout the 1900s came from the old 4000 series boxcars of the previous century. Each one was built for a unique purpose, ranging from kitchens, sleepers and diners for the working stiffs to rolling offices for foremen and supervisors. At least three 3000 Series boxcars were converted to work service. Boxcars 3057, 3131 and 3085 were converted to work cars after previously being used in revenue service. The original boxcar numbers were retained with the simple addition of a "0" at the front to distinguish the reassignment. We've recreated the 03131 as it was with the economy hardware and painted with the Flying Grande livery.

New product: Bethlehem-design quad hoppers in 9 UP paint schemes
MSRP: $32.95 Tangent Scale Models now has our fourth ALL-NEW HO scale freight car, the Bethlehem Steel design open quad hopper with coal load - as produced for Union Pacific. These cars represent UP™s largest fleet of coal hoppers in company history. First produced in 1974 by Bethlehem Steel as UP class H-100-10, production of a majority of the fleet occurred in UP™s Albina (Portland OR) Shops between 1976 and 1981. Production of this important fleet ended with the H-100-23 class, after UP placed more than 6,900 of these "quad" hoppers in service in the rapidly-growing Western low-sulfur coal market.
The Tangent Scale Models prototype replica of the Union Pacific Bethlehem design quad hopper has never been produced in HO scale, making it a distinctive addition to any freight car fleet. And like all of the other products in our line, we take the time to maintain our strong emphasis on accurate reproduction of the prototype, as well as disciplined execution of each model. Finally, we design our products to be utilized in operating environments.

New York Central Steel Box Car in HO
MSRP: $29.99 June 9, 2010 - Broadway Limited Imports, LLC is pleased to announce the New York Central Steel Box Car
project in HO scale.
This prototype was the second most populous steel box car on America's railroads and was prevalent from
the 1920s through the late 1950s. The detail level of these box cars will be second to none. The models
will have rectangular-paneled roofs, corrugated doors, AB brakes, ARA U-section trucks, and a steel-grid
running board along the top of the car. The models will not have patch panels on the sides. The box cars
are o ffered with two versions of end caps: 7-8 corrugated ends and Dreadnaught ends.
The box cars are available in 4 non-overlapping 4-Packs and as 8 non-overlapping single units. A modeler
who purchases all available lettered pieces will have 28 non-overlapping cars. An Unlettered/Unnumbered
4-Pack is also available for those wishing to decal the units.
The NYC Steel Box cars are expected to arrive December 2010. Preorders requested by August 6, 2010.

PRR FM Flatcar Decals
MSRP: $10.00 (Catalog No. HO-FM) The PRR's FM Class Flatcars were built in Altoona from 1902 to 1913 and were the workhorses of the PRR's flatcar fleet
until the 1930's with the creation of the F30 Class. These cars lasted in great numbers through the 1950's, when the
number of cars in revenue service dropped to 364 with only 3 remaining by 1968. The majority of these cars were transferred to MOW service as they aged.
This sheet includes enough decals to decal 6 FM Class Flatcars with the correct build dates for each number. There are 8 different re-weigh/repack dates. Also, the number jumble contains one complete additional number and has been constructed to ease in making additional numbers.
The FM Class Flatcar has been produced in HO brass by Railworks, LTD, and in resin by Sunshine Models and Funaro &
Camerlengo.

PRR Wood Cabin Car Decals
MSRP: $15.00 (Catalog No. HO-PNW) In 1903 the PRR made a major design change in their cabin car fleet by introducing the ND, which had a steel underframe. In 1916 the NDa class was created. In 1914 the N6a and N6b classes were introduced.
This sheet includes enough lettering for the above four classes of cars in their Pre-1954 scheme before they were repainted with the Shadow Keystone monogram. The sheet includes enough data for 4 ND's, 2 NDa's, 2 N6a's and 4 N6b's, plus data for many additional Cabin Cars. The number jumble contains all 8 number prefixes (475, 476, 478, 479, 980, 981, 982, and 983), with additional jumbles to cover any number accurately seen in photos.
All of the above classes have been produced by various brass importers. Additionally, they all have been produced in kit form by Quality (Gloor) Craft, and resin by by F&C (ND and NDa). Walthers also recently produced a RTR version of the N6b.

PRR Wreck Derrick Decals
MSRP: $9.00 (Catalog No. HO-PWD) The majority of the PRR's Wreck Derrick fleet was built by Industrial Works, later Industrial Brownhoist. There were four major classes of derricks used post-1900, W100, W120, W150 and W250. With each came an increased lifting capacity.
The W250 were required after purchase of the J1a locomotives in 1945, all were steam powered and self-propelled. In addition to these major classes, each one had subclasses based on the length of their booms, please refer to Rob Schoenberg’s site showing diagrams of each class. http://prr.railfan.net/freight/PRRdiagrams.html
This sheet includes enough decals to decal 3 Wreck Derricks with two correct numbers for each car class. The number
jumble contains all three of the 4 number prefixes (4907, 4957, & 4909), with an additional jumble to cover any number
accurately seen in photos. Also, a jumble is included for making your own derrick weight, which also varied through the service life of the derrick. See the diagram for proper placement.
The W120 (kitbash-able to a W100 or W150) class is produced in plastic by Tichy. The W250 has been produced by Athearn.

Reading 800-series MU coach as-built
These kits will build a complete Reading 800-series MU coach as-built. The kits include one-piece body shells, floors with cast-on underbody, interiors, clear window inserts, Taylor trucks (in both 8'9" and 8" wheelbases as per the prototype) and detail parts for the horns and roof buss bars. Decals are also included. Pantographs are not included, but we have suggestions for them in the instructions. Reading MU kits will be available in July once we have the decals done and delivered. Production will be one time and limited.

Plan now for this great new kit from CMR. Designed from an actual power plant this kit features lots of detail and will be a centerpiece on your layout. Create a destination point for your coal trains with lots of action.
Coal is unloaded in the double track hopper located on the side of the building. From there it is loaded into the tipple for storage. After being pulverized the coal is used to fire the furnaces that generate steam. Spent fuel is then loaded out of the bottom of the building into trucks for disposal. Steam is used to power the city steam system or used to run turbines to generate electricity.
Kit features laser cut acrylic parts, ladders, fire escapes, piping, detailed cast chimneys, cast manifolds, cast cyclones and vents. Everything you see is included in the kit (rolling stock not included). An interior structure is included to create a mass that represents the furnaces and chimneys inside the building. Tab and slot construction, detailed instructions and photos help with assembly.

Frisco 40' Plug Door Boxcar

The car was rebuilt in October 1967 and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Between August and October 1967, the Frisco leased 100 rebuilt boxcars from the Chicago Freight Car Co. and numbered them into the 15000-15099 series. During the 1960s, the Frisco used colors to designate a specific usage or equipment; the red-orange paint applied to this series signified assignment to Kellogg.

PRR Wreck Derrick Decals
MSRP: $5.00 (Catalog No. N-PWD) The majority of the PRR's Wreck Derrick fleet was built by Industrial Works, later Industrial Brownhoist. There were four major classes of derricks used post-1900, W100, W120, W150 and W250. With each came an increased lifting capacity. The W250 were required after purchase of the J1a locomotives in 1945, all were steam powered and self-propelled. In addition to these major classes, each one had subclasses based on the length of their booms, please refer to Rob Schoenberg’s site showing diagrams of each class. http://prr.railfan.net/freight/PRRdiagrams.html This sheet includes enough decals to decal 3 Wreck Derricks with two correct numbers for each car class. The number jumble contains all three of the 4 number prefixes (4907, 4957, & 4909), with an additional jumble to cover any number accurately seen in photos. Also, a jumble is included for making your own derrick weight, which also varied through the service life of the derrick. See the diagram for proper placement. The W120 (kitbash-able to a W100 or W150) class is produced in plastic by Tichy. The W250 has been produced by various manufacturers.

MSRP: $From $89.95 (Catalog No. 100 and 200 series) Alley Friends Architects introduced the latest editions to its line of RRinaBox layout building system at the National Train Show 2010, in Milwaukee - the 200 Series, N scale for Bachmann EZ Trak or Kato Unitrack and the 100 Series, Z Scale for Micro-Trains track. The unique construction is similar to previous plans using pre-printed, full-size patterns which are mounted to foamcore to create lightweight layouts that are faster, easier and more economical than traditional layouts. Joining the 500 Series MTH O Gauge and 300 Series HO plans, the 200 Series makes layouts that are 2'0" x 3'4" (A & B modules) and 2'0" x 5'0" (A, B &C modules) and can also be used with HO narrow gauge. The 100 Series are the same size as the 200 Series. Expansion modules are also available in both Series. They can also be used as a shelf or wall layout. Shown in the photo is a section of the layout built during the show using the 200 Series patterns. It has two mountains and tunnels, three bridges and runs two trains.
